garden into a consumer product |

After the harvest season or simply when a particular
Alliaceae crop is ready for harvest, one may find
themselves with an abundance of raw material.
Kevin Prescott presents his techniques and recipes for
transforming this top-quality raw material to promote
improve its self-sufficiency.

self-sufficiency by transforming chive steams from his
vegetable garden into dried chive flakes. |

4. What can we do with... The Chive? |
|
4A - Dehydrated chive flakes or dehydrated
chopped chive! |
|
|
Ingredients : |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Directions : |
|
- Wash and dry.
- Cut into half to one inch
pieces.
- Spread the pieces on the
dehydrator trays in a thin and even layer.
- Dry for 3 to 6 hours at 125
°F or 52 °C.
- Check if the pieces are
completely dry and continue drying if necessary.
- Store in an airtight
container in a dry place.
