3. What can we do with... The Onion?

3B - Onion Powder!

If your onions from last year are starting to look worse or you simply have too many onions in the fall, consider making onion powder so that nothing is lost.

Ingredients :

  • White onions or red onions or yellow onions.

Note :

  • Use yellow onions for a stronger flavor, white onions for a milder taste, or red onions for a sweeter flavor. You can mix all types of onions together!

Directions :

  • Peel the onions.

  • Cut the onions into quarters.

  • Put the quarters in a food processor and roughly chop.

  • Put parchment paper on the trays of your dehydrator.

  • Spread the onion on the trays, ¼ inch thick and as uniform as possible.

  • Put in the dehydrator at 125 °F until the onion is completely dehydrated. *The time varies depending on several factors (ambient humidity, food humidity...).

  • Put back in the food processor to eliminate clumps and cut your pieces to the desired size.

  • Put in a coffee grinder to obtain a nice fine powder.

  • See photos below.
